1. Overview
KanaStudio (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is an interactive language-learning application developed by the KanaStudio Team. KanaStudio is designed with a privacy-first, local-first architecture. You can practice, study Hiragana and Katakana charts, and use the Spaced Repetition System (SRS) completely offline without creating an account or providing any personal information.
2. Information We Collect
We only collect personal information if you voluntarily choose to sign in to sync your study progress across devices or participate in optional community features:
- Account Information (Optional): When you sign in using Google Sign-In, we receive your basic public profile information, including your name, email address, and profile picture avatar.
- Learning Progress & Statistics: When signed in, your SRS review history, study streak, accuracy scores, and custom preferences are securely synchronized to our Cloudflare Workers edge backend so your progress is available across multiple devices.
- Public Leaderboard (Optional): If you participate in the community leaderboard, you may choose an optional public display nickname and country flag. We never expose your email address publicly.
-
Local-Only Data (Guest Users): If you do not sign in, all learning progress, SRS review intervals, and audio preferences remain stored strictly inside your device’s local storage (
localStorage) and are never transmitted to our servers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the minimal data collected strictly for the following purposes:
- To authenticate your identity and synchronize your study progress between devices.
- To display your chosen nickname and score on the optional study leaderboard.
- To maintain app reliability, prevent abusive leaderboard submissions, and ensure service availability.
We never sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal data. We do not display third-party advertisements or use tracking/marketing cookies.
4. Third-Party Services
KanaStudio integrates with trusted, industry-standard infrastructure providers:
- Google Identity Services: Used to provide secure OAuth authentication. Google’s privacy policy applies to authentication transactions: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Cloudflare (Pages & D1): Hosts the web application and stores encrypted synchronization databases on Cloudflare’s global edge network. Cloudflare’s privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
5. Data Retention & User Deletion Rights
You have full control over your data at all times:
- In-App Reset: You can reset all local learning data and sound preferences directly in the app’s Settings screen at any time.
- Account & Data Deletion (48-Hour Grace Period): You can request permanent deletion of your user account, cloud-synchronized learning progress, and leaderboard records directly in the app’s Account menu or by emailing [email protected]. When requested, a 48-hour grace period is initiated during which you can cancel the request at any time with a single tap. Once the 48-hour period lapses, all associated account data and progress are permanently purged.
6. Children’s Privacy
KanaStudio is designed for general audiences interested in language acquisition. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly remove it.
